The Crow on the Crib

Painting by David Ladmore
After the 1932 kidnapping of the Lindbergh baby, during the frenzied, emotionally exhausting weeks of waiting that follows, Anne Morrow Lindbergh's mother kept one fact from her daughter: that one afternoon, a black crow had flown in through the open window and perched on the baby's empty crib.
