A slap-happy Batman: The first of an apparently endless series of jokes |
Why is Batman slapping Robin?
Everybody has seen the
ever-evolving (and usually funny) Facebook meme, but where did it come from?
It came from November 1965, issue
153 of the Superman-Batman team-up title World’s Finest, a
surprisingly somber story in which Bruce Wayne believes Superboy killed his
parents, and spends his career seeking revenge against Superman, finally
sacrificing his life for the Man of Steel when he learns the truth about his
mistaken vendetta.

In other words, in the famous panel, Batman’s got one too
many bats in his belfry, and the Boy Wonder is just trying to talk some sense
into him.
Okay, we all know Batman’s a
little crazy, just crazy enough to be interesting, but he’s not THAT crazy.
What gives?
|
Young Bruce Wayne makes a tragic mistake... |
Well, this was an “imaginary story,”
meaning a one-time, anything-can-happen deviation from the regular comic book
continuity.
The other stories about Superman
and Batman being, as we all know, real.
|
...And finally pays for it with his life |
|
Now that you know the true story, why not make your own?
