By Dan Hagen
Biography is history as it is lived. Thus, while Sen. Joseph McCarthy was pursuing power by terrorizing the nation with his anticommunist witch hunt, Frank Sinatra was making half-hearted but repeated attempts to kill himself for love of the eternally independent Ava Gardner, Ian Fleming was trying to mute his jitters about his impending wedding by dreaming up some spy character to star in his first novel, and I was working my way up to being born.
Such is life with its many moving parts, momentous and mischievous, merry and maudlin, mean and meaningless and meaningful.
