The Giraffe Dialogues

"In olden days, a glimpse of stocking
was looked on as something shocking.
Now God knows, anything goes..."
By Dan Hagen
Times Have Changed, my friend. Just back from lunch yesterday, I saw a college student wearing a white T-shirt emblazoned with the motto "Higher than a giraffe's p***y." And minus the asterisks.
And to underline that fact, this morning I spotted a news story about a Minnesota high school student who invited a porn star to his prom. Many on line are applauding the move. I suggested this year's prom theme should be “Higher than a giraffe’s p***y.”
My friend Jim Jenkins chimed in that the white, brown and pink color scheme was going to be just atrocious.
One of my students was fine with the idea of taking a porn star to the prom. “I wish I had the guts this kid has to do something bold like this,” he said on line. “Wouldn't you do the same thing if you had no other alternative?”
“No,’ I replied. “A porn star is a prostitute, and taking a prostitute to the prom is pathetic and vulgar.”
The student said, “They deserve respect and decency, just like any other female out there, they're just a special kind of female.”
I replied, “ They're sex workers who are paid to feign interest in relationships with men. Prom dates should be people who freely and genuinely enjoy each other's company."
“Oh, how society has changed...” said the student.
I replied, “One problem with the 21st century is that a lot of young men seem to think that ‘prostitute’ and ‘assassin’ are nice professions for admirable people. They are not."
Sigh. Hollywood has a lot to answer for.
